Mulholland Drive – Winkie’s on Sunset

Welcome to Caesar’s Restaurant in Gardena, California – definitely NOT on Sunset Boulevard like its Mulholland Drive alias “Winkie’s”.  Just a few blocks from West Compton, this greasy spoon serves up traditional diner fare.  I opted for the french toast and it was pretty good!  My brother had no complaints about the pancakes – but food was secondary during this visit.  Much of Caesar’s Restaurant looks just like it did in the film, except for the seats had been reupholstered and the diner felt MUCH larger than it did on screen.

I purposefully did NOT look down the hill towards the dumpster before eating-so I could save a little suspense.  The first time I watched Mulholland Drive I literally jumped ten feet when the nasty monster emerges from behind the wall with the dumpster.

But…

Wait for it…

THE WALL IS GONE!

My heart sank, and I gazed over the parking lot disappointed and saddened.  Nevertheless, we walked down the stairs just to look around and snap a couple of pictures.

All in all, Caesar’s offered up some good food and some great Lynch-ian ambience and I was glad to see that most of the restaurant looked just like Winkie’s.  If you have the means, I highly suggest dropping by.

Your wife recommended that I check out your blog and now I’ll follow your recommendation to try out winkies! I love David Lynch. Such an interesting man with a very unique vision. I read your post on Ides of March and it’s funny because i walked out miserable but i did forget that it had it’s good qualities.

Thanks grace! Ides of march definitely captured the feel of heartless and ruthless politics-did you see ‘drive’? Gosling is really winning me over lately.
