Andrew Dice Clay stars as Ford Fairlane, a self proclaimed “rock n’ roll detective” who scours L.A. doing whatever the music elite ask him to do. After dispatching of a girl group stalker named Psycho Sam (David Patrick Kelly) he is hired to track down an L.A. groupie who is missing at the request of his old friend, a manic shock rock D.J. (Gilbert Gottfried). Meanwhile, a glam rock God (played by Vince Neil) mysteriously overdoses on stage and Ford begins to see a few connections between the cases. As Ford eventually gets involved with a mysterious woman (Priscilla Presley) and a ruthless record label executive (Wayne Newton!!), he is immersed in a gigantic plot of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll and must find the true villain behind it all.
The Adventures of Ford Fairlane will probably not appeal to all audiences. The humor is vile, the language (even from the child character!) is lewd and lascivious, and the plot is just a pretty silly crime caper-not to mention extremely misogynistic. Regardless, I thought it had its moments of hilarity and Dice Clay was actually a pretty funny leading man, not to mention some great scenes with Ed O’Neill as a blundering LAPD detective. This film won’t change your life, but if you enjoyed Bad Santa I would highly suggest checking it out.
