Following in the pattern of most other iconic Ghostbusters filming locations, The New York Public Library has barely changed a bit since filming in 1985. It sits proudly on 5th Avenue in Manhattan and is quite a beautiful site to see. I remember seeing it for the first time as a kid in New York and feeling a thunderbolt of excitement. Opened in May 1911, perhaps it has a few real ghosts of its own by now!
As the legend goes, the beginning basement interiors were shot at a Los Angeles library, but the rest of the interiors appear to be filmed in New York. On my next jaunt to L.A. I will attempt to solve that mystery for good with photographic proof. That would be a pretty cool location to see, let’s hope it really didn’t burn!
Feel free to drop by the Library and see for yourself at 5th Avenue at 42nd Street.
