Once upon a time, I was rolling through Monrovia looking for some Twin Peaks filming locations, mainly the bakery from a Deleted Scene in Twin Peaks’ first season. It was closed but I took a peak in the windows and went on my merry way after a couple of photographs. It was a shame it wasn’t put to better use as I thought it would have fit right at home on the same street as the Double R Diner.
As I was on a Mad Men marathon last year I was watching Season 3 and immediately noticed the bakery as the same one that Betty Draper rendezvous with Henry Francis in the episode “Seven Twenty Three”. Surely there are many other productions that have filmed here, but it was nice to see two of my favorite shows overlapping with each other somewhere in time…
Downtown Monrovia also stood in for small town Washington in the (terribly underrated) Black Sheep starring Chris Farley and David Spade in 1996.
See for yourself, and grab a doughnut while you’re at it.
